A Typical British House Hold story
My wife (69) and I (71) have now been paying full Council Tax on our home here in Our Village since 1964 (that is already 45 years).
Let us assume that, God forbid, one day one or even both of us need some form of care.
By which time we may well have paid Council Tax for 55 or more years.
This year alone The Local Council have allocated £116 million out of a gross' Services Spending Budget' of £792 million.
Allocated to Adult Social Services, in other words 14.65%.
Imagine therefore, how much of our annual Council Tax goes towards Adult Social Services. (lets say 15%)
Then multiply that by say 50 years and we will have contributed a very large chunk of money to it, yet if you own your own home or have savings in excess of £22,500 you are not ENTITLED to claim or receive FREE CARE. (Never mind a contribution to your care.)
Bear in mind that one's National Insurance Contributions during Your working life provide a State Pension from pensionable age to death.
Council Tax Payers such as my wife and I are, in real effect, being unfairly discriminated against when it comes to Care Services.
Simply because we chose to be prudent when we bought our own home, (with a 30 year mortgage I might add). Raised our children, paid our taxes, paid our rates, supported our country, and when we in turn need assistance we are in effect punished. It is Wrong.
